Question: Why would a juvenile water snake be hanging out on my nearly-the-highest-point-in-town-and-not-much-water-nearby driveway on Memorial Day weekend?

Answer: I dunno.

But I’m glad he stopped by.

He is! And, thankfully, not at all as aggressive as field guides might lead you to believe. (Of course, we gave him a wiiiiide berth.)

So cool! In our experience (all in water, not on hilltops), they *have* been aggressive, or at least they’ve made a show of it. The wide berth was not a bad idea. Fascinating snakes!
